BASECAMP

BASECAMP is a wilderness backpacking experience for students currently in 6TH, 7TH and 8TH grade in the 2021-22 school year. We'll be heading to South Manitou Island for a trip that will challenge students both physically and spiritually, as they experience God’s creation in tangible ways. We'll be camping on the beach near the beautiful isolated Islands of Lake Michigan and exploring the amazing wilderness.

WHERE: South Manitou Island, MI

COST: $80 per student

  • At BASECAMP, students will be challenged spiritually and physically.
  • This year’s theme: EREMOS
  • On this trip we will be backpacking, camping, swimming, enjoying a campfire, experiencing the outdoors, and studying God’s Word together. 
  • In addition to growing spiritually, students will also have opportunities to learn and grow in their camp and wilderness skills.
  • Trip participants will also receive a complimentary BASECAMP Mug!
  • We will have medical forms and waivers to sign prior to the trip.

GEAR CHECKLIST

Money

  1. $20 for rest stop food and emergencies

NOTE: This money might not be spent, but it is good to have for travel food and expenses.

Clothing (NOTE: Stay away from cotton!)

  1. Hiking boots/running shoes

  2. Dri-fit shirt (breathable and NOT cotton)

  3. Hiking pants or shorts(NO jeans. NOT cotton. Walmart running shorts work great.)

  4. Long socks(preferably wool):  x2

  5. Underwear x2

  6. Rain Jacket - Frogg Toggs or Poncho

  7. Lightweight synthetic jacket

  8. Swimsuit/swim trunks

  9. Clothes to sleep in(optional)


Small Items

  5. Water bottle: 1 Liter (1 liter Smart Water bottles from the gas station are perfect!)
